Smartphone Market Will doubles



SINGAPORE, (AP) .- Asia-Pacific smartphone market is expected to rise until doubled to 200 million in 2016, with Google's Android operating system as the leading platform, as disclosed by industry analysts.
Telecommunications consultant from Ovum said that with the growing popularity of handheld devices, allowing users to browse email and internet access, which means the number of users will reach nearly a third of all mobile phones in the area at the time. 
Despite the ongoing success of the Apple iPhone, Ovum added that the Android platform by far the most widely used. Android devices are used in so many smartphones, with the number of users to 100 million in the region last year. It is expected that the average growth rate of 12.5 percent annually between 2010 to 2016 and percentage figures continue to rise to 32 percent of all mobile phones in the Asia-Pacific.
At the same time, global sales estimated at 653 million, and sales in the Asia-Pacific region will contribute 30.7 percent of total global sales. In 2010, then total smartphone sales worldwide reached 288 million units.
"Smartphone market will experience significant growth over the next five years, once again beat the mobile phone market more broadly," said Ovum analyst Adam Leach, was quoted as saying "AFP".
Android success was driven by the large number of hardware vendors that support them both at the entry-level class to hi-end devices. But at least one other platform that will achieve mainstream success in the forecast period. "Other platforms can achieve success like Bada, WebOS, or MeeGo, or it could be a newcomer to the market," said Leach.
